Modern Hardware & Paint Co. is the small shop hardware store that everyone wants in their neighborhood. These folks give excellent, personalized service.
Let me give you the most recent example - as my goods were getting rung up, I asked the owner what tips he had for reusing a paint roller. He stopped what he was doing, grabbed a premium roller, grabbed a budget roller, grabbed some masking tape, and demonstrated to me how the premium roller did not shed at all and it would stand up to multiple cleanings. All that for $2 more sale -- wow. They also have great connections to local tradesmen - I trust their recommendations over other services.
For painters - these guys carry the full line of Benjamin Moore and Carlifornia paints. They have all the computerized look ups, and have the equipment to match colors based on paint chips. Highly recommended.

I've been going here with my family since I was a little kid. The owners, George and David, are no-BS, sell at a good price, and are very knowledgeable about their products. I am pretty hardware-challenged, and the staff there have always taken their time to help me with my projects. Yet, their bread-and-butter seems to be hard-core construction and painting guys who trust their integrity. I will love this place even more when the remodeling is done! Forget Home Depot, this is the place to go to.
